Film & TV Language: Mise-en-scene recreation practical task

PLAN: The Blair Witch Project-apology scene

C- In order to re-create the original character's costume, the actor wore a durag in the place of a winter hat.

L-There was use of a flashlight to create a harsh, almost artificial light on his face which created two deeply contrasting colours on his face to emphasise mystery and sorrow due to the atmosphere being gloomy.

A- We made sure he displayed extreme vulnerability and sorrow, in order to mirror the original character.

M- No makeup was used. This perfectly re-created the simple look of the original character.

P- There were no props involved.

S- This was filmed in a room with a black background to elevate the dullness in the room.

Script:
In a dark pitch room, a harsh light casts shadows on his face, which displays a deeply sorrowful expression as he apologizes to everyone with teary eyes and regrets.

SANDEEP: I just want to apologize to everyone ...

Heavy breathing, on the verge of tears.

SANDEEP:  to Mike's mum ...to Joshua's mum... to my mum..

Still crying as he speaks

SANDEEP: I'm so (pause) sorry to everyone.

SANDEEP: I was being ..naive.
(looks away to surroundings)

(scene ends)

Shot List

Recreation scene:

Summary:
In order to re-create this scene from 'The Blair Witch Project' , we created a dramatic atmosphere to capture by using a dark music room with a black background. We used a flashlight to vividly mirror the artificial lighting and deeply contrasting colours on the face from the original scene. This was filmed with no cuts as it is a one-shot scene that doesn't require cuts. We ensure the actor's head was covered, in order to replicate the original. For the editing, I implemented a background noise of crickets as it perfectly reinforces the creepiness of this scene. Also, I used a cool-toned filter to emphasise the chilling feeling of the original scene. An enigma code was created when the actor looked away into his surroundings and the scene was cut off , which effectively created a sense of intensity and mystery.
