Clueless review
'Clueless' is a standout teen comedy that offers both satire and successful character development. As an A-level media student, it's notable how the film modernises "Emma" into 1990s Beverly Hills in order to explore the ideas around adolescence, privilege and personal growth which is effectively conveyed through 'Cher's' transformation. The film's clever use of genre conventions such as the makeover trope and setting clearly demonstrates its self-awareness and its long-lasting cultural impact. The use of bold costumes and a memorable pop soundtrack, defines not just the mood but also the style of the generation at the time. The narrative structure uses the usual teen film tropes which includes romance and friendships, however, it also subverts expectations through the use of satire throughout the film. Overall, 'Clueless' is a humorous film that portrays the lives of teenagers through comedy in order to successfully entertain and also critique society.
